Full color commercial printing, is distinctly different from what is referred to as "quick-print" and there are several items to consider when choosing commercial printing or the "quick-print" relative.
Hands down, you have no other choice, but to utilize full color commercial printing and not the "quick print" smaller relative to commercial printing. There are several reasons for this. With commercial printing, you benefit from the higher line screen (more dots to the square inch). When you utilize a quick print press, your line screen will usually max out at 133 LPI (lines per inch, with DPI approximately double that number). In full color commercial printing, the average LPI for standard work is 150 LPI and most digital presses today tend to run at 175 LPI, with many commercial printing presses capable of easily printing at 200 LPI. There are even museum quality commercial printing presses who print at 350-400 LPI. Another factor which commercial printing offers is consistency of the print quality. With commercial printing you will usually find that the quality will more often remail constant that with a quick print press.
Here it is also quite simple. Somewhere in the middle of the quantity vs. page count math, is where you can essentially try and squeeze a size 10 foot into a size 7 shoe. There are times when a small quick-print press can do the same job as the larger press, but at a lesser quality. Here is where the term "down and dirty" partially comes from. Yes you can sometimes save the money this way, but clearly at the expense of loss of quality that only the large press version can offer.
Color process or full color printing only should be run on a full color commercial printing press. There are times, when a quality quick print press, such as the ones made by Ryobi, can do two passes, of two plates each, in order to run full color. You can get passable work, but does that phrase, "down and dirty" ring your bell again? I should think so. You will never get the registration for quality print work on a quick print press.
