- Basic pad printing: What are the basic types of
pad printing. The answer is anything you want
and we will be happy to accommodate you. After all, it is only ink on paper
with a glued edge, so whatever you can create can be padded by us for your
next pad printing project.
- Basic sizes of pad printing services: With pad
printing, since they are either given away as promotional pieces, or
used with great frequency, economy is the order of the day. Therefore, more so than any other type
of print job, size does matter.
With short runs, the ideal is to get as many sheets out of a
basic letter size page (8.5 x 11"). Therefore when you use a 4.25 wide x
5.5" high finished size, you will be able to get four sheets
of paper from a letter size sheet. If you
require your pad to utilize a 4 x 6" page size, then your
pad page yield will be two out if they print in the same direction,
or 3 out of the letter size sheet if you right angle one sheet under the
first two. It is also a good idea to avoid bleeds, where the ink goes to the
edge of the page. This is because a gutter is required
between images for the background to bleed into it and trimmed off during
bindery for that clean pad edge. The bleed on the pad not only
requires a larger parent sheet of paper, but has many more cuts (and cost to
you) then a traditional "chop cut" pad.
- Bindery styles: The basic bindery style is to glue the shorter edge, usually at the top, while adding a
chip board backer for ease of use. Other bindery styles in can
include spiral or wire-o binds. This type of bindery can also
feature a front and back cover as a "steno book ". There is also the wrap
around cover and this is usually referred to as "booked".
The cover starts at one edge, overlapping maybe 1/2 inch and is stapled and
then wraps around and under the back side and then up again and over, with
the final part of this one piece cover overlapping the stapled portion of
the pad. You can also request custom pad printing pages which you can insert
into your ring bind journal or date book. There is no limit to your options
in pad printing services, as mentioned above, it is all ink on paper with the rest
simply being bindery types.
